Carnaval - Vastelaovend - Carnival
Rood, geel en groen zijn de kleuren van Carnaval. Of zoals we in de Provincie Limburg zeggen: Vastelaovend. Een uitbundig volksfeest vlak voor de start van de christelijke vastentijd. Kenmerkend zijn de verkleedpartijen, optochten, muziek, carnavalsprins en het tijdelijk omkeren van de sociale orde. De prins wordt de heerser over de gemeente. De leeuw op de Limburgse vlag draait zich om en de vlag veranderd in de Carnavalskleuren.
Red, yellow, and green are the colors of Carnival. Or, as we say in the province of Limburg: Vastelaovend (carnival).
A vibrant folk festival just before the start of Lent. Characteristic are the costumes, parades, music, a carnival prince, and the temporary reversal of social order. The prince becomes the ruler of the municipality. The lion on the Limburg flag turns around, and the flag changes to the Carnival colors.
